Starting to gear up

It’s deep in winter here. We’re having long, frigid nights, lots and lots of snow, dazzlingly sunny days. In spite of that, were …

… thinking about performance dates.

… considering locations.

… starting to talk to our “consultants” about ideas for rehearsals, locations, etc.

… practicing “And The World Will Know” each day after breakfast.

… reacquainting ourselves with the script.

… getting ideas for costumes, choreography, advertising, etc., and keeping them on a Pinterest board.

Spotlighting an Actress: Courtney Worley

As part of this blog, we are going to post interviews by the actors and actresses who will be taking part in our Newsies production.

It seemed logical to interview our main actress first: Courtney Worley!

Courtney will be acting in Newsies as the main character, Jack Kelly. Jack is the main newsboy who is the leader of a group of New York newsboys.

The First Practice!

At long last, the Newsies script has finally been completed! It took quite awhile because there was a lot we had to change, and we have been busy, so there wasn’t a lot of time devoted to the altering of the script. But now that’s we’re ready to start, I have a feeling blog updates will be more regular as we start practicing.

The girls were pretty excited about finally being able to practice, thus it got a little crazy. But we had fun and are glad to move to the next stage of the preparation! =)

Here is a video we took during the practice. Courtney and Erica actually have quite a bit of it memorized from doing the movie. They were thrilled to finally start practicing, as you will notice… =D

The planning has begun

We have officially begun the plans for Newsies! Mrs. Noot came yesterday to help us get started since we older ones will be in charge.

We have organized “committees”, distributing the tasks among those who would be best at a particular task. Courtney, Erica and Kate are in charge of the choreography since all three love to dance and are great at it. Alix and I (Rachel) will be writing the script (starting tonight, as a matter of fact) and so forth…

There is a lot to be done in the next few months: scripts and dance numbers to plan and memorize, blocking, props, backdrops and costumes to worry about. It will be a big undertaking, but we’re looking forward to it; stay tuned for more updates!

Here we are in the school room, listening in awe as Mrs. Noot gives us a ton of helpful tips and advice. Don’t we look excited? (We really did a lot have fun =)
